What Does Stage 4 Add Over Stage 3?
The defining upgrade from ICON Stage 3 to Stage 4 is the rear shock package.
Stage 3 uses ICON's 2.0 Aluminum Series rear shocks, while Stage 4 upgrades to:
-
2.5 Aluminum Series rear shocks
-
Remote reservoirs
-
Increased shock oil volume
-
Improved heat dissipation
-
Greater resistance to shock fade
-
ICON Bump Zone technology
-
Heavy-duty 7/8" rear shock shafts
The rest of the major Stage 3 components remain, including Extended Travel front coilovers, billet Delta Joint upper control arms, rear lift springs and billet rear lower links.
For drivers who spend more time off road, particularly over rough terrain where the suspension is cycling repeatedly, the larger remote reservoir rear shocks represent a significant performance upgrade.
Adjustable 0-3.5" Front Lift
The ICON Extended Travel 2.5 Series front coilovers provide 0 to 3.5 inches of adjustable front lift on a stock-equipped vehicle.
This allows you to adjust the front ride height based on your desired stance, tire size and vehicle configuration.
Unlike a basic spacer lift, the ICON system replaces the factory front shock and spring assembly with performance-oriented coilovers designed to improve:
-
Ride quality
-
Shock damping
-
Suspension travel
-
Vehicle control
-
Off-road performance
-
Front ride height
Front Lift Range: 0-3.5"
ICON notes that published coilover lift heights are based on a stock-equipped vehicle. Added weight from aftermarket bumpers, winches, skid plates and other accessories can affect actual ride height.
Extended Travel 2.5 Series Front Coilovers
The K53054 uses ICON 58645 Extended Travel 2.5 Series Vehicle-Specific Internal Reservoir Coilovers.

The upgraded control arms provide the additional articulation required to take advantage of the Extended Travel coilovers while helping maintain appropriate suspension geometry at increased ride heights.
ICON Delta Joint
The billet upper control arms use ICON's patented Delta Joint.
The Delta Joint is a heavy-duty high-angle joint designed to combine the durability and weather resistance of a ball joint with the increased angularity associated with a traditional uniball.

Why Remote Reservoir Shocks?
Shock absorbers convert suspension movement into heat.
During prolonged off-road driving over rough terrain, the shocks may cycle hundreds or thousands of times. As shock temperature increases, damping performance can begin to decrease.
The remote reservoir design increases the total amount of shock oil in the system and provides additional surface area for heat dissipation.
The result is improved thermal management, allowing the rear shocks to work harder for longer periods without noticeable shock fade.
This makes the Stage 4 system particularly well suited for:
-
Aggressive trail driving
-
High-speed off-road driving
-
Washboard roads
-
Overlanding
-
Extended backcountry travel
-
Heavily modified vehicles
-
Repeated rough-terrain use
ICON Bump Zone Technology
The 2.5 Series rear shocks included with K53054 feature ICON's Bump Zone technology.
Bump Zone significantly increases the shock's damping ability during the final 2 inches of compression travel.
As the rear suspension approaches full compression, the increased damping helps slow the axle's movement before the suspension reaches the end of its travel.
This helps:
-
Reduce harsh bottom-out events
-
Improve suspension control
-
Absorb larger impacts
-
Maintain better vehicle composure
-
Provide a more controlled ride over varying terrain
For an FJ Cruiser or 4Runner used aggressively off road, Bump Zone provides an additional layer of suspension control when encountering larger bumps, dips and trail obstacles.
Balanced Front-to-Rear Damping
ICON designed the Stage 4 system as a complete suspension package rather than a collection of unrelated components.
The 2.5 Series front coilovers and 2.5 Series rear remote reservoir shocks provide more balanced damping capability from front to rear.
Vehicle-specific tuning helps provide predictable handling and suspension response across varying terrain.
