What Does Stage 2 Add Over Stage 1?

The primary upgrade from ICON K40011 Stage 1 to K40012T Stage 2 is the addition of ICON's tubular upper control arms.

Stage 1 includes:

  • Two ICON 48602 front EXP shocks

  • Two ICON 48612 rear EXP shocks

  • Factory Bronco coil springs retained

  • Adjustable ride height

Stage 2 adds:

  • ICON 48400DJ Tubular Upper Control Arm Kit

  • Delta Joint Pro

  • 90 degrees of total articulation

  • Caster correction

  • Improved alignment capability

  • Increased UCA strength and durability

  • Increased joint articulation for additional suspension travel

The Stage 2 system is especially beneficial when using the higher EXP ride-height settings where proper front suspension geometry becomes increasingly important.

Adjustable Ride Height

ICON's EXP Series shocks use snap-ring grooves machined into the shock bodies to provide selectable ride-height adjustment.

ICON's current key specifications list:

Front Lift Range: 0-2"
Rear Lift Range: 0-1.75"

Because the system retains the factory coil springs, the spring seat is repositioned on the shock body to select the desired ride height.

NOTE: ICON's overview text currently also references 1.375-3" front and 1.5-2.25" rear lift, while its product title, Key Features and technical specifications list the system as 0-2" front / 0-1.75" rear. For customer-facing fitment, we recommend using ICON's stated 0-2" front and 0-1.75" rear specification.

ICON also notes that advertised lift heights are based on a stock-equipped vehicle.

2-door Broncos will sit taller than 4-door models.

Added weight from aftermarket bumpers, winches, skid plates and other accessories can also affect actual ride height.

ICON 2.5 EXP Series Shocks

The K40012T includes four ICON 2.5 EXP Series internal-reservoir shocks.

EXP Series is based on ICON's proven 2.5-inch Aluminum Series shock architecture and combines premium shock performance with the ability to reuse the Bronco's factory coil springs.

Key features include:

  • 2.5-inch shock bodies

  • Internal reservoir design

  • Increased piston size

  • Increased shock oil volume

  • Improved heat dissipation

  • One-piece digressive piston design

  • Vehicle-specific valving

  • Hard-anodized aluminum cylinders

  • 7/8-inch induction-hardened, chrome-plated shock shafts

  • CNC-machined 6061 aluminum components

  • PTFE-lined spherical bearings

  • Fully rebuildable

  • Fully re-tunable

The larger piston and increased oil capacity provide improved thermal performance compared with the Bronco's smaller factory steel-bodied shocks, helping maintain more consistent damping during prolonged rough-terrain use.

Factory Coil Spring Retention

ICON EXP shocks are specifically designed to reuse the Bronco's factory coil springs and related coil hardware.

Benefits include:

  • Retains factory coil springs

  • Retains factory spring rates

  • Retains factory coil hardware

  • Lower cost than complete replacement coilovers

  • Selectable ride height

  • Increased shock performance

  • Improved heat management

  • Fully serviceable shock construction

For Bronco owners satisfied with their factory HOSS 2.0 spring rates but looking for better damping, additional ride height and improved suspension performance, the EXP system provides an excellent upgrade.

ICON Tubular Upper Control Arms

K40012T includes the ICON 48400DJ Tubular Upper Control Arm Kit.

These heavy-duty UCAs are designed to accommodate the increased ride height and suspension travel available from the EXP shocks.

Key benefits include:

  • Heavy-duty tubular steel construction

  • Increased strength and durability

  • Improved front suspension geometry

  • Caster correction

  • Improved alignment capability

  • Increased joint articulation

  • Designed to complement ICON EXP suspension travel

  • ICON Delta Joint Pro

ICON Delta Joint Pro

The tubular upper control arms feature ICON's patented Delta Joint Pro.

Delta Joint Pro provides the high-angle movement needed for increased suspension travel while retaining the durability and environmental protection desirable for a daily-driven Bronco.

ICON specifies:

90 Degrees of Total Articulation

This increased articulation allows the UCA joint to accommodate the additional suspension travel provided by the ICON EXP system.

Vehicle-Specific Shock Tuning

ICON tunes the EXP shocks specifically for the Ford Bronco and its factory coil springs.

The shocks use a one-piece digressive piston design engineered to provide improved damping and vehicle control while maintaining excellent ride quality.

The system is suitable for:

  • Daily street driving

  • Highway driving

  • Trail use

  • Overlanding

  • Washboard roads

  • Rough terrain

  • Higher-speed off-road driving

35" Tire Fitment

ICON recommends 35" x 12.50" tires with the appropriate wheel specifications.

Non-Sasquatch Bronco

When running 35" tires on a non-Sasquatch Bronco, ICON recommends:

ICON #42000 High Clearance Crash Bar Kit

Sasquatch Bronco

ICON also recommends 35" x 12.50" tires with appropriate Sasquatch-compatible wheel specifications.

37" Tire Fitment

ICON notes that 37-inch tire packages require additional modifications.

For 37" tires:

  • Use ICON #611082 Front Bump Stop Spacer Kit

2-Door vs. 4-Door Ride Height

ICON specifically notes:

2-door Bronco models will sit taller than 4-door models.

Customers should keep this in mind when selecting the EXP snap-ring position and desired final ride height.

Actual lift can also vary depending on:

  • Vehicle weight

  • Bumper and winch weight

  • Skid plates

  • Roof racks

  • Cargo

  • Other permanently installed accessories

ADAS Recalibration Required

ICON specifies that installation of K40012T requires recalibration of the Bronco's Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Changing vehicle ride height can affect the operation or calibration of cameras, sensors and driver-assistance systems.

ADAS recalibration should therefore be included as part of the installation process.

Fully Rebuildable & Re-Tunable

ICON EXP shocks are fully rebuildable and re-tunable.

Qualified shock technicians can service the shocks as components wear and can alter the internal valving if desired.

This provides a significant long-term advantage compared with non-serviceable replacement shocks.

Bolt-On Installation

The ICON K40012T Stage 2 Suspension System is designed as a 100% bolt-on suspension upgrade.

No cutting or welding is required for suspension installation.

A professional wheel alignment should be performed after installation and final ride-height adjustment.

ADAS recalibration is required after installation.
