Upgrade the ride quality, suspension control and off-road capability of your Bronco with the ICON Vehicle Dynamics Stage 1 Suspension System, part #K40011.

Designed specifically for the 2021-2026 Ford Bronco equipped with the HOSS 2.0 suspension package, this Stage 1 system replaces all four factory shocks with ICON 2.5 EXP Series internal-reservoir coilovers while retaining the Bronco's factory coil springs and upper spring hardware.

The ICON EXP Series combines the performance and serviceability of a premium 2.5-inch diameter shock absorber with the convenience and cost savings of reusing the factory coils.

Ride height is adjustable through multiple snap-ring grooves machined into the shock bodies, providing up to 2 inches of front lift and 1.75 inches of rear lift over stock on HOSS 2.0-equipped Broncos.

Adjustable Ride Height

ICON's EXP Series shocks use a series of snap-ring grooves machined into the shock bodies to provide selectable ride-height adjustment.

For HOSS 2.0-equipped Broncos, ICON lists:

Front Lift Range: 0-2"
Rear Lift Range: 0-1.75"

Because the system reuses the Bronco's factory coil springs, ride-height changes are achieved by repositioning the spring seat on the shock body rather than replacing the factory coils.

ICON notes that published lift heights are based on a stock-equipped vehicle. Added weight from bumpers, winches, skid plates, racks and other accessories can affect actual ride height.

ICON 2.5 EXP Series Shocks

The K40011 system includes four ICON 2.5 EXP Series internal-reservoir shocks.

EXP Series shocks are based on ICON's proven 2.5 Aluminum Series shock architecture and feature a one-piece, impact-extruded aluminum shock body.

Benefits include:

  • Larger 2.5-inch piston and shock body

  • Increased shock oil volume

  • Improved heat dissipation

  • Reduced performance loss during prolonged use

  • Vehicle-specific valving

  • Fully serviceable construction

  • Fully re-valvable design

The larger body and increased oil capacity provide improved thermal performance compared with the smaller factory steel-bodied shocks.

Factory Coil Spring Retention

One of the major advantages of the EXP Series system is that it retains the Bronco's factory coil springs and upper spring hardware.

This provides several benefits:

  • Lower system cost compared with complete replacement coilovers

  • Retains Ford's factory spring rates

  • Maintains factory spring compatibility

  • Allows ride-height adjustment without replacing the coils

  • Simplifies the Stage 1 upgrade path

For owners who like the characteristics of the HOSS 2.0 springs but want higher-performance shocks and additional ride-height adjustment, K40011 is an excellent solution.

Vehicle-Specific Tuning

ICON tunes the EXP Series shocks specifically for the Ford Bronco and its factory coil springs.

The shocks use a one-piece digressive piston design engineered to provide improved damping and vehicle control while maintaining good ride quality.

This provides improved suspension performance for:

  • Daily driving

  • Highway driving

  • Trail use

  • Overlanding

  • Washboard roads

  • Faster off-road driving

  • Rough terrain

  • Modified Broncos

Increased Shock Cooling

Shock absorbers convert suspension movement into heat.

During repeated suspension cycling, particularly at higher speeds over rough terrain, shock temperature can rise substantially.

The larger 2.5-inch aluminum shock bodies and increased oil volume of the ICON EXP shocks improve heat dissipation compared with the smaller factory shocks.

This helps the suspension maintain more consistent damping during prolonged use.

Upper Control Arm Recommendation

ICON notes that the factory upper control arms may not align properly beyond approximately 1.5 inches of front lift.

For front lift heights above 1.5 inches, ICON recommends an aftermarket upper control arm.

Because the K40011 provides up to 2 inches of front lift, ICON specifically recommends its Delta Joint Pro upper control arms when taking advantage of the higher lift settings.

Recommended ICON UCA options include:

  • ICON 48400DJ Tubular Upper Control Arms with Delta Joint Pro

  • ICON 48500DJ Billet Upper Control Arms with Delta Joint Pro

ICON also cautions that not every aftermarket upper control arm is compatible with the increased wheel travel provided by these coilovers.

35" Tire Fitment

ICON provides separate recommendations for Sasquatch and non-Sasquatch Broncos.

Non-Sasquatch Bronco

ICON recommends 35" x 12.50" tires with appropriate wheel specifications.

For 35" tires on non-Sasquatch Broncos, ICON recommends the 42000 High Clearance Crash Bar Kit.

Sasquatch Bronco

ICON also recommends 35" x 12.50" tires with appropriate Sasquatch-compatible wheel specifications.

37" Tire Fitment

ICON notes that 37-inch tire packages require additional modifications.

For 37" tires:

  • Use ICON 611082 front bump stop spacer kit

  • Fender trimming and other modifications may be required

  • Crash bar removal may be required in some configurations

ICON specifically notes that crash bar removal may be required but is not recommended.

Wheel Recommendations

ICON confirms that OEM wheels and tires are compatible with the K40011 system.

Without Sasquatch Package

Recommended ICON wheel specifications:

17" Wheels

  • 17x8.5"

  • 5.75" backspacing

  • 25mm offset

18" Wheels

  • 18x9"

  • 6.00" backspacing

  • 25mm offset

With Sasquatch Package

17" Wheels

  • 17x8.5"

  • 4.75" backspacing

  • 0mm offset

18" Wheels

  • 18x9"

  • 5.00" backspacing

  • 0mm offset

20" Wheels

  • 20x9"

  • 5.00" backspacing

  • 0mm offset

ADAS Recalibration Required

ICON specifically notes that installation of this suspension system requires recalibration of the Bronco's Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

This is an important installation consideration because changing vehicle ride height can affect camera, sensor and driver-assistance system calibration.

Fully Rebuildable & Re-Valvable

The ICON EXP shocks are fully rebuildable and re-valvable.

Qualified shock technicians can service the shocks as components wear, and ICON replacement/service parts are available.

This provides a significant long-term advantage compared with non-serviceable replacement shocks.

Bolt-On Installation

The ICON K40011 Stage 1 Suspension System is designed as a 100% bolt-on upgrade.

No cutting or welding is required for suspension installation.

A professional alignment should be performed after installation and ride-height adjustment.

ADAS recalibration is also required following installation.
